Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur, who is representing Mumbai in the 2024 Irani Cup match against the Rest of India (RoI), has been discharged from Medanta Hospital after being admitted due to a viral infection following Day 2’s play. Thankfully, any serious illness has been ruled out according to the latest medical reports.
However, it remains unlikely that Thakur will take the field during RoI’s first innings. Sources suggest that while his condition is improving, his participation in the remainder of the game will depend on how his recovery progresses, and he may join his team in the dressing room soon.

Earlier reports explained that Shardul Thakur had not been feeling well throughout Day 2, battling a high fever. This was the reason he came out to bat lower down the order at number 9. Despite his weakened state, Thakur’s determination to contribute to his team led him to take the crease after resting and receiving medication.

A source revealed that blood tests were conducted to rule out more serious illnesses like malaria and dengue, though he spent the night in the hospital as a precaution. Despite Shardul Thakur’s absence, Mumbai’s early dismissal on Day 3 meant the Rest of India batters had a steep challenge ahead.
However, Abhimanyu Easwaran stepped up with a resilient century, leading RoI’s fightback against Mumbai’s formidable bowling attack. At the close of 50 overs, RoI stood at 197/3, with Easwaran anchoring the innings and Ishan Kishan providing solid support at the other end.

Their partnership has given RoI a solid chance to close in on Mumbai’s lead, setting up an intriguing contest as the match progresses at the Ekana International Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Shardul Thakur’s recovery will be closely monitored, but for now, Mumbai will have to manage without their key all-rounder.
