The young Indian pacer Shardul Thakur was unlucky for not surviving even two overs as a bowler in his Test debut in Hyderabad recently. He was taken off the field after bowling 10 deliveries as he suffered a tendon injury in his right adductor, after opening the bowling attack with Umesh Yadav against the Windies. If the latest reports are to be believed, Thakur is likely to spend at least seven weeks for recovery which means he will not be considered for India’s T20I and Test squads for the tour of Australia starting next month.

India’s tour Down Under will be commencing on November 21 with a three-game T20I series. The first Test will begin on December 6 while the first of the three ODIs will be starting on January 12. In recnet times, Thakur has faced a bunch of injuries as he missed the Asia Cup as well last month. He has played five ODIs and seven T20Is since his debut last year and claimed 14 scalps so far.

The bowler himself is not hurrying to get fit either. Speaking to The Indian Express regarding the same, he said, “Even if I try hard, I won’t be able to get fit before the second Test in Australia [which starts on December 14]. A place in the T20Is or the Tests will be difficult. I will be eyeing the one-dayers instead. Let’s see how my rehab goes. I will continue with my training for the next seven weeks.”

Though Shardul Thakur could not bowl the eleventh delivery in his debut Test against the Windies, he came out to bat at No.11 to help his team extend the lead over the visitors and remained not out on four. He was later replaced by in-form Umesh Yadav for the five-match ODI series which commenced on October 21. India won the first game in Guwahati by eight wickets to go 1-0 up. The second game will be played in Vizag on October 24.
