Prithvi Shaw was once regarded as India’s next big batting sensation. His rise through the ranks, from leading India to a U-19 World Cup victory to smashing a century on his Test debut, seemed to confirm his immense potential. Even in domestic cricket, he piled up runs at an astonishing rate. However, in recent years, his form has declined significantly across all formats, leaving many wondering where things went wrong.

Shaw’s struggles have not just been limited to on-field performances. Concerns over his fitness and off-field discipline have further derailed his career. His dwindling form led to him going unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction, marking a major setback for the once-promising batter.

To add to his woes, he was also excluded from Mumbai’s squad for both the Ranji Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy, further indicating a dip in his cricketing trajectory. Amid discussions about his career downturn, Punjab Kings batter Shashank Singh recently shared his thoughts on Shaw’s struggles. Speaking on Shubhankar Mishra’s podcast, Shashank expressed his belief that Shaw still has the potential to bounce back if he refines his approach.

He added, “Prithvi Shaw is underrated. If he gets back to his basics, he can achieve anything. I’ve known him since he was 13, and I’ve played club cricket with him in Mumbai. Maybe small changes in his work ethic, like sleeping earlier or improving his diet, could make a huge difference. If he can do that, it would be great for Indian cricket.”

Despite missing out on an IPL contract, Shaw recently showcased glimpses of his talent in the DY Patil T20 tournament. Playing for Route Mobile, he led from the front, scoring 168 runs in just three innings at a stunning strike rate of 182.61, averaging 56. While this performance might not be enough to immediately resurrect his career, it serves as a reminder of his capabilities.

Meanwhile, Shashank Singh, who was surprisingly picked by Punjab Kings for ₹5.5 crore in the 2024 mini-auction due to a bidding mix-up, turned out to be one of the biggest success stories of IPL 2024. Despite PBKS not initially intending to buy him, he became their highest run-scorer last season, amassing 354 runs at an average of 44.25 and a strike rate of 164.65, including two half-centuries.

As IPL 2025 approaches, all eyes will be on Shashank as he looks to continue his rich vein of form. Punjab Kings begin their campaign against Gujarat Titans on March 25 in Ahmedabad, and fans will be eager to see if Shashank can once again be the game-changer for his team.
