Senior Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has reacted sharply to India’s latest T20I defeat, calling England’s series-clinching win in Bristol “one humiliation too many” after another disappointing performance from the reigning world champions. Soon after England completed a commanding nine-wicket victory in the fourth T20I on Thursday, Tharoor took to X to vent his frustration.

“I’m truly speechless. Dumbfounded. Gobsmacked. This is one humiliation too many. There is literally nothing to be said,” he wrote, summing up the mood around India’s latest setback.

England chased down 159 with ease, as Harry Brook and Phil Salt produced unbeaten half-centuries to power the hosts to 3-0 lead in the five-match series. Brook hammered 79 not out off 35 balls, while Salt stayed unbeaten on 59, making the target look far below par on a good batting surface at the County Ground.

For India, the only real positive came from captain Shreyas Iyer, who fought hard to score an unbeaten 80 off 49 deliveries and carry the innings after another top-order collapse. His effort helped India reach 158/7, but the total was never enough against England’s relentless batting display.

The defeat extended India’s troubling run in T20I cricket. The Men in Blue have now lost consecutive bilateral T20I series for the first time since 2019, after already going down 2-0 to Ireland before the England tour. For a side that lifted the T20 World Cup just months ago, the slump has come as a major shock.

It has also been a difficult beginning to Shreyas Iyer’s spell as India’s T20I captain. Since taking over after the World Cup-winning campaign, he has overseen back-to-back series defeats and is still searching for consistency from a team that appears to be struggling with both form and confidence.

Tharoor’s post struck a chord with fans online, many of whom echoed his concerns over India’s sharp decline. With one match left in Southampton on Saturday, India now have one final chance to avoid a clean sweep and salvage some pride from a difficult tour.
