Shikhar Dhawan believes that when things get challenging, India’s determination will shine through. He’s backing Rohit Sharma’s Test team to rebound and make a powerful comeback in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Despite the disappointment of a 0-3 whitewash by New Zealand at home—a historic low in Indian Test cricket—Dhawan sees potential for redemption.

India’s recent struggles have sparked criticism, particularly aimed at senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, whose batting form was underwhelming. In the three-match series against New Zealand, Rohit managed only 91 runs at an average of 15.17. His yearly statistics aren’t much better, with just 588 runs across 11 matches at an average of 29.40.

Virat Kohli’s record has also faltered; he scored 93 runs at an average of 15.50 in the New Zealand series and accumulated only 250 runs in 2024 from six games, averaging 22.72. Yet Dhawan is confident that the experience and resilience of these veterans will guide India back to success.

“I believe we have a solid chance to bag a hat-trick of title wins in Australia. We’ve performed exceptionally well in the last two series there. I’m sure the team will go to Australia with a positive, winning mindset,” Shikhar Dhawan expressed, highlighting the unique strength that players like Rohit, Kohli, and Jasprit Bumrah bring to the team with their extensive experience on Australian soil.

Shikhar Dhawan also has high hopes for the younger generation, who are stepping up with confidence and adaptability. He specifically mentioned promising talents like Sarfaraz Khan and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who have made strong impressions in international cricket.

“This new generation is confident, motivated, and eager to perform. They’ve established themselves quickly on the international stage, which is a tremendous advantage for us in Australia,” he emphasized.
