The outbreak of the COVID-19 virus has affected the world severely. It has brought the world to a standstill with many countries being completely lockdown for safety and to contain the spread of the virus. All Cricketing is postponed or canceled in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic affecting the globe. With no cricket going on, all the cricketers have a lot of free time on their hands right now. Many cricketers have also been proactive on their social media in the past few weeks due to the lockdown. On Monday, India opener Shikhar Dhawan urged fellow citizens to stop the domestic violence happening amid the coronavirus lockdown.
Shikhar Dhawan is spending much of his time with his family staying indoors during the crisis. He felt disheartened and sad with the rising numbers in domestic violence because of the lockdown.

Dhawan took to Twitter to express his feelings on the issue. He wrote, “While I enjoy my time at home with my loving family, I am truly sad and disheartened and sad to hear about domestic violence still existing in today’s time and we need to put an end to it. Choose a kind and loving partnership and say no to violence.”

National Commission of Women (NCW) says the cases of domestic violence had doubled during the lockdown. Between March 23 and April 16, The NCW received 239 complaints. These complaints are mostly received via email and WhatsApp number.

The Indian government had implemented a 3-week lockdown as a precautionary measure and to contain the spread of the novel virus. The lockdown is extended up to May 3 due to the increasing number of positive cases. The star-studded Indian Premier League is also postponed indefinitely due to the same.
