Shikhar Dhawan Joins Legends League Cricket After Retirement

The former Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is joining the Legends League Cricket (LLC) just days after announcing his retirement from international and domestic cricket. The LLC consists of cricket legends that have retired and will start its next season in September; thus, Dhawan should generate a buzz.

Dhawan has had a remarkable career and has achieved several milestones throughout. He was the Player of the Tournament in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. He scored over 6,793 runs in One Day Internationals (ODIs) which includes an average of 44.1, 1,759 runs in T20Is with a strike rate of 91.35. He played 269 international matches over a span of a decade and scored 10,867 runs with an average of 40.

Shikhar Dhawan’s contributions to the Indian cricket team and the Indian Premier League (IPL) stands him as a cricketing great.

He expressed excitement as he navigates this new chapter; he said, “Taking on this new chapter with Legends League Cricket feels like a natural progression after my retirement – my body is still trained for the demands of the game and while I am comfortable with my decision, cricket is part of my identity and I’m looking forward to reuniting with my cricketing friends and to entertain my fans while we create new experiences.”

 

Raman Raheja Co-founder of LLC welcomed Dhawan and stated Dhawan’s experience and flair will add pressure to the competition, “We are happy to have Shikhar Dhawan join us. His experience and flare will enhance the competition and excite fans. We can’t wait to see him back in action alongside other cricket legends,” he said.

Dhawan is simply another addition to the cricket legends in LLC; LLC has already attracted superstars such as Aaron Finch, Martin Guptill, and has recently added Hashim Amla to its roster.
