Regular India opener Shikhar Dhawan thinks that KL Rahul can score a century even as the 12th man as he has been in a blistering form. Rahul scored a stunning 112 off 113 in the third and final ODI in Mount Maunganui on Tuesday. After the century, Dhawan took to social media and congratulated the 27-year-old who finished the ODIs with 204 runs in three innings.
“Well played and wonderful century bro keep going strong. The way you are batting, even if you go as 12th man you will score a ton,” Dhawan wrote in an Instagram story.

However, there was speculation about Dhawan and Rahul fighting for the opening place along with another opener Rohit Sharma. Since then, KL Rahul has gone further. As he started to keep wickets and bat in the middle order while Dhawan got injured once again during the ODI series against Australia and was ruled out of New Zealand series.
Rahul put up another good show initially as an opener with both the bat and keeping gloves which put Dhawan under pressure as he was out of the squad. Moreover, the Karnataka player continued his sublime form in the middle order as well and everyone witnessed that in both the T20Is and ODIs in New Zealand. While KL Rahul helped India whitewash the Kiwis 5-0 in the T20Is, his efforts with the bat went in vain as India were faced a whitewash in the three-match One Day International series.
