Shikhar Dhawan Thanks His Fans For The Support As He Undergoes Quarantine

The Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan took to social media on Thursday, to thank all his fans and followers for showing support after it emerged that he had tested positive for Covid-19 earlier this week. On Wednesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said, in a statement, that Shikhar Dhawan was among the 7 members of the Indian contingent who tested positive for the virus after arriving in Ahmedabad for the 3-match ODI series against the West Indies, scheduled to be commencing on February 6.

Dhawan, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Shreyas Iyer were among the 3 cricketers in the squad who contracted the virus along with standby player Navdeep Saini and 3 other members of the support staff. All of them are undergoing quarantine and will be monitored by the BCCI medical team.

In a statement regarding the same, the BCCI said, “Opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan and fast bowler Navdeep Saini’s (standby player) RT-PCR tests conducted on Monday (January 31) have returned positive results.” Notably, all the members of the Indian team were asked to undergo RT-PCR tests at home and were allowed to travel to Ahmedabad only after testing negative for the virus. 

Thanking his well-wishers, Shikhar Dhawan tweeted, “Thank you everyone for your wishes. I’m doing fine and humbled by all the love that’s come my way.”

The BCCI on Wednesday added Mayank Agarwal to the ODI squad which will be led by Rohit Sharma who returned from a hamstring injury. With both Dhawan and Gaikwad expected to miss the first couple of ODIs, Mayank will be expected to open with Rohit.

Vice-captain KL Rahul will not be part of the squad as he will be missing the first ODI, but he will be joining the squad for the remaining part of the series against the West Indies, who arrived in Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
