Star Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan has been granted a divorce from his estranged wife, Aesha Mukherji, on grounds of mental cruelty by a family court in Delhi on October 4. Judge Harish Kumar upheld all the allegations made by Dhawan in his divorce petition, as Aesha did not contest or defend against these claims.
The court found that Dhawan had endured mental torment at the hands of his wife, which had led to their separation and his inability to live with his son for several years. Although the court did not make a ruling on permanent custody of their child, it granted Dhawan visitation rights in both India and Australia and allowed him to have video calls with his son.

Dhawan’s plea highlighted Aesha’s initial commitment to living with him in India, which she failed to fulfill due to prior commitments in Australia with her ex-husband.

Additionally, the court considered Dhawan’s allegation that Aesha had pressured him to transfer ownership of 99 percent of three properties in Australia, which he had purchased using his own funds. She had also insisted on joint ownership of two other properties, which the court noted.
Shikhar Dhawan was married to Aesha Mukerji, who had two daughters from her previous marriage. Shikhar and Aesha had a son together. Yesterday, court granted him divorce on the grounds of cruelty by his wife.

Aesha defended herself against allegations that she had sent defamatory text messages to various authorities within the BCCI, IPL team owners, and fellow cricketers. She claimed that these messages were sent to only three individuals to ensure she received her monthly maintenance on time, as Dhawan had been delaying payments. However, the court rejected her defense, finding that the defamatory texts had been sent to numerous people to exert pressure, defame, and humiliate Shikhar Dhawan.

The court further acknowledged that Aesha had picked a fight with Dhawan when he had taken his ailing father to the hospital after contracting COVID-19. This incident was considered as part of the overall context of their troubled relationship.
Shikhar Dhawan’s divorce brings an end to a chapter in his personal life, allowing him to focus on his cricket career without the emotional distress of a strained marriage.
