In the ongoing IPL 2024 season, Punjab Kings’ captain Shikhar Dhawan has exhibited remarkable leadership skills, guiding his team to two significant victories. His strategic acumen came to the fore once again during Punjab Kings’ encounter against Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he made a crucial decision that turned the tide in his team’s favour.
During the tenth over of Hyderabad’s innings, Dhawan reintroduced Harshal Patel into the attack to disrupt the partnership between Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Kumar Reddy. This tactical move proved fruitful, as Patel dismissed Tripathi on his fourth delivery.

The dismissal came in the form of a bouncer, catching Tripathi off guard as he attempted an uppercut. Although the on-field umpire initially ruled Tripathi not out, Dhawan decided to review the decision after consulting with teammate Sam Curran, who expressed confidence in the dismissal.
Shikhar Dhawan’s intuition proved correct, as the TV umpire detected a faint edge off Tripathi’s bat, prompting the on-field umpire to overturn the decision. This successful review resulted in the dismissal of Tripathi, who was looking well-set in the middle. The wicket provided a crucial breakthrough for Punjab Kings, putting them in a favourable position in the match.
