Lucknow Super Giants’ pacer Shivam Mavi has suffered a setback, ruling him out of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season due to injury. Mavi, who was acquired by the franchise for a hefty sum of 6.4 crore INR in the 2024 auctions, is yet to make his debut for the team. The specifics of his injury remain undisclosed, as per the franchise’s official statement posted on their website, confirming his unavailability for the ongoing IPL season.

Despite Mavi’s absence, Lucknow Super Giants have showcased resilience after their initial defeat to the Rajasthan Royals in the opening game. They bounced back with impressive victories against the Punjab Kings at home and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on the road.

Mavi boasts a commendable IPL record, having played 32 matches since his debut in 2018. Over the years, he has amassed 30 wickets at an economy rate of 8.71 runs per over and an average of 31.4.

Initially representing the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2018 to 2022, Mavi later moved to the Gujarat Titans for a significant sum of 6 crores. However, his stint with the Titans didn’t yield the desired results, leading to his transfer to Lucknow Super Giants.

The young pacer also made his international debut against Sri Lanka in January 2023, featuring in six T20Is. However, his last appearance for the national team dates back to February 1, 2023, against New Zealand in Ahmedabad.

In a video shared by Lucknow Super Giants on their official platform, Mavi revealed his unfortunate recurrence of the injury, casting doubt on his immediate return to action. The exact nature of the injury remains unclear at this point.

While Lucknow Super Giants are yet to announce Mavi’s replacement, their pace attack boasts formidable options, including Yash Thakur, Shamar Joseph, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Matt Henry, and Naveen-ul-Haq. The team is gearing up for their upcoming home fixture against the Gujarat Titans scheduled for Sunday, April 7, 2024.
