England’s young spinner Shoaib Bashir has opened up about the memorable dismissal of Mohammed Siraj during the tense third Test against India at Lord’s. Although Bashir admitted he couldn’t fully see what happened in the moment, he said the reaction of his teammates and the crowd made it unforgettable.

Bashir, who has been ruled out of the remainder of the five-match series with a fractured little finger, had already claimed Siraj’s wicket in the second Test at Edgbaston with a clever carrom ball. At Lord’s, with India chasing 193, the off-spinner once again rose to the occasion.

With Ravindra Jadeja threatening to take India close to the target, England captain Ben Stokes turned to Bashir for a breakthrough. The 20-year-old didn’t disappoint, producing a delivery that bounced sharply and spun past Siraj’s defense.

“We got Joe Root in at silly point to increase pressure. I just tried to put as many revs on the ball as I could. It popped from a length, and when it hit Siraj’s bat and went down, everyone was searching for the ball,” Shoiab Bashir told The Sunday Times.

He added that his own reaction was guided by the crowd and teammates: “From my angle, I couldn’t see the bail come off. My reaction was more from everyone else’s. But to experience that at Lord’s, in front of a packed crowd, is something I’ll never forget.”

India were 112/8 at one stage, with Jadeja fighting hard alongside Jasprit Bumrah and later Siraj. However, Siraj’s 29-ball resistance ended when Bashir’s spinning delivery rolled back onto the stumps, sparking wild celebrations and sealing a dramatic win for England at the Home of Cricket.
