India’s young left-arm spinner Shree Charani is closing in on a historic milestone in the ICC Women’s T20I Player Rankings following an outstanding campaign at the Women’s Asia Cup. Her consistent performances have propelled her into an elite group and left her just two rating points away from an all-time record. Charani currently has 804 rating points, placing her within touching distance of Australia’s Megan Schutt, who holds the record for the highest rating achieved by a bowler in the women’s T20I rankings.

Schutt reached 806 points in November 2018, meaning Charani needs just two more points to equal the mark. The 22-year-old has already created history by becoming the first Indian to cross 800 rating points in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings. Her current tally of 804 is also the highest rating ever achieved by an Indian player in the rankings, across both the batting and bowling categories.

England’s Sophie Ecclestone is the only other bowler to have crossed the 800-point barrier, reaching 802 points. Charani could therefore join an exclusive group if she continues her impressive run and potentially establish a new benchmark for women’s T20I bowling.

Her rise has also ended a long-standing Indian record. Before Charani’s breakthrough, former India captain Mithali Raj held the country’s highest-ever T20I rating. Raj reached 780 points in the batting rankings in 2011.

Charani’s 804 points have now pushed that record significantly higher, underlining how quickly the spinner has established herself at the international level.

Her performances at the Women’s Asia Cup played a major role in her latest rise. Charani finished the tournament with 12 wickets and produced one of her best displays in the final against Sri Lanka. She returned impressive figures of 4/20, helping India secure the title.

What makes Charani’s achievement even more notable is her relatively limited international experience. She first reached the No. 1 position in the women’s T20I bowling rankings earlier in 2026 and has continued to build on that success.

With the Asian Games now providing another opportunity, Charani could move beyond Schutt’s 806-point record. Another strong tournament would give the Indian spinner a chance to rewrite the ICC Women’s T20I record books once again and establish herself as the highest-rated bowler in the format’s history.
