The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the entire world very badly. While it brought the entire world to a standstill, sporting events didn’t take place for a long time before they started taking place inside the bio-secure environment. Meanwhile, Bengal wicketkeeper-batsman Shreevats Goswami has revealed a secret regarding domestic cricket in India.

Goswami, who’s currently featured for the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad, recently took to Twitter and shared that players have been receiving late payments even way before the COVID-19 hit the world. “Never understood the delayed payment system in first class cricket .This is been happening for ages now. We never complain but if we do people think we are arrogant & asking for favours,” Shreevats Goswami wrote on Twitter.

Notably, no domestic cricket has taken place in India since the conclusion of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in March. Hence, many cricketers are struggling for money as well. Although a few have Indian Premier League (IPL) contracts, others players have certainly struggled amid this crunch time. Hence, several cricketers have started taking part in local leagues and earn money as well.

Meanwhile, the Indian team is preparing for the upcoming ICC World Test Championship final against New Zealand next month. The much-awaited summit clash getting underway on June 18 and India wouldn’t have much time to get in the action as they fly to England on June 2 and will undergo a 10-day quarantine period after reaching there.

On the other hand, Team India will play a five-match Test series against England as well after the WTC final.
