India’s middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer reckons that the men in blue have successfully secured the no.4 position in limited-overs cricket and ending the debate regarding the batting position. He also added that he feels good about securing the slot but would not mind batting on different positions if the situation demands.

During an Instagram live session with Delhi Capitals, Iyer said, “There should be no more questions asked about India’s number 4 batting slot. If someone has played on that position for a year then he has secured that spot. You need to be flexible but I feel I can bat at any position depending on the condition.”

Shreyas has batted for India consistently at the position after the World Cup 2019 for India with a semifinal loss against New Zealand. Since the start of 2018, Iyer has batted at the number 4 position on 9 occasions, scoring 398 runs at an average of 56.85. Many batsmen including Rishabh Pant, Vijay Shankar, Ambato Raydu, and Dinesh Karthik have experimented at that position but none could impress as much as Shreyas Iyer.

Iyer grabbed a lot of eyeballs after being picked by Delhi capitals (formerly known as Delhi Daredevils) in 2015. He was bought for fetched as much as ₹2.6 crores in the auction but an unfortunate finger injury had threatened to jeopardize his entire debut season.

The doctor had advised Iyer to not play any matches but coach Garry Kirsten insisted he to play and from there on the batsman went to score 439 runs in that IPL edition with a broken finger. He also received 2015 IPL’s Emerging Player of the Season award for his very impressive run in the tournament.

The Delhi Capitals captain also talked very highly of his India captain Virat Kohli. Shreyas Iyer compared Virat to a ‘lion’ and added that he has the enthusiasm of a debutant in every match.
