The young Indian batsman, Shreyas Iyer has recently been merged as the solution for India’s long-standing No. 4 problem as he scored a plethora of runs at that batting position in the last one year. Recently, in an interview with Cricbuzz, he has conceded that he should have been picked into the national side way before.
Iyer made his T20I debut in 2017 against New Zealand and a month later that, also entered India ODI squad against Sri Lanka. Taking about getting the India cap on ‘Spicy Pitch’, Iyer said, “To be honest, I wasn’t that emotional. When I got the cap because I felt that I should have gotten it way before. So whenever I was given the cap, I was like..okay..normal. I didn’t feel much.”

Shreyas currently leads Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He replaced Gautam Gambhir in 2018 and also guided his team to the playoffs in the last edition of the league.
Asked if he has ever thought of leading the India team sometime in the future, Iyer said, “Yes I have. I have not given a thought about it at the moment. I am thinking about the present. Not thinking much about my captaincy in the future. I just want to be in the moment and enjoy it right now.”
Iyer’s father was very busy because of his business, in which his mother only supported him. However, Iyer said that he often used to go to the kitchen and sledge his mother. His father used to go to see the match in secret, so that Iyer would not know.
In an interview to Cricbuzz, Iyer’s father said, “Shreyas used to go to the kitchen and sled his mother and tell her what was wrong. He never used to say what she was making. Iyer said that he used to do this so that his mother could make better food.”

During this interview, Iyer said that his mother used to live with him all the time. She used to inspire Iyer by feeding him burgers and pizza to play better. Iyer used to get a pizza in every match and a burger on a half-century.
At the same time, Shreyas’s father used to reach to watch his match whenever he got time. He never saw Iyer’s match in front, he used to hide behind the tree and watch the son’s match so that his attention is not disturbed. He said, “I expected that Iyer would be bought for at least one crore rupees but as the price went up we became happier. We started receiving calls from people that Iyer has become a millionaire.”
