“When I go through lows in my life, only a few people reach out to me—Pravin Amre sir, Abhishek Nayar, and Sagar, with whom I trained. There are a few more who supported me well during those times. I will always keep such people close because they have known me since my younger days. When things are going well, they remain normal, but when things go wrong, they support me even more. I really appreciate that kind of mentality. Having such people around helps you grow,” Shreyas Iyer said, as quoted by News18.

Iyer’s connection with Amre dates back to his time at Delhi Capitals, where the veteran coach played a crucial role in shaping his game. Meanwhile, Nayar worked closely with Iyer during his Kolkata Knight Riders stints in 2022 and 2024. The former Mumbai all-rounder has also been instrumental in Iyer’s development within the Indian setup, particularly after joining Gautam Gambhir’s coaching staff as an assistant coach in July 2024.

Most recently, Iyer delivered an impressive performance for India in the Champions Trophy, amassing 243 runs in five innings—making him the tournament’s second-highest run-scorer. His stellar form saw him secure a record-breaking INR 26.75 crore deal with Punjab Kings in the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, where he will lead the franchise in a bid to turn their fortunes around.
