The Indian cricketer, Shreyas Iyer reckons that Team India is going through a transition from T20s to ODIs and it affected their approach in the first 2 ODIs of the ongoing series against Australia. He said that the Indian team has understood that certain processes they followed weren’t working and they will be putting up a better show in Wednesday’s dead rubber.

Australia took an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ongoing ODI series over India and the latter will be looking to avoid a clean sweep when they face the hosts at the Manuka Oval in Canberra in the series finale. Iyer said India has taken the positives despite losing the last 2 ODIs and that he is confident that India’s bowlers will be making a strong comeback in Canberra as they look to avoid a 3-0 result.

During the press conference ahead of the final ODI, Shreyas Iyer said, “We are very much determined to win the next game and see to it that we don’t have a clean sweep. The two losses, we are going to take positively. Obviously, the bowlers weren’t up to the mark but I am sure the bowlers are positive in their work ethics. Also, when we practiced today, we were able to see bowlers practicing with certain plans. And the meetings are spot on.”

India’s problem has been their misfiring bowling attack, led by Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami. With Navdeep Saini and Yuzvendra Chahal going for runs, India’s main bowlers have been taken to the cleaners by Australia batsmen. In both the ODIs, India failed to strike early as David Warner and Aaron Finch stitched two successive hundred-plus stands.

The Indian bowlers have been failing to control teh momentum in the middle-overs, as well as Steve Smith, has dominated that phase. Iyer said it has not been easy for India’s bowlers to switch from the IPL mode to ODI cricket and pointed out that they haven’t bowled long spells in quite some time.

Describing the same, Shreyas Iyer said, “If you see the amount of workload they’ve gone through in the IPL – playing 14 games – and after that they’ve come here and stayed in quarantine – definitely it plays on your mind. And it plays with every individual in the team, it’s not just the bowlers. It is really difficult, especially for the bowlers coming in and bowling 10 overs on the trot. I’m sure they’ll come back really strong and with a positive frame of mind.”
