Shreyas Iyer’s journey over the past year has been nothing short of a rollercoaster. From being left out of BCCI’s central contracts to emerging as India’s leading run-scorer in the Champions Trophy, his resilience has been commendable. With 243 runs in five matches at an average of 48.6, Iyer played a crucial role in India’s triumph, silencing his critics with the bat.

However, it wasn’t just his performances that defined his comeback—it was the support system around him. Iyer recently opened up about the people who stood by him during his toughest times.
“Whenever I go through a low phase, very few people actually check on me. Pravin Amre sir, Abhishek Nayar, and Sagar have been there for me. There are a few others who supported me a lot, and I will always keep them close,” Iyer told The Times of India.

He emphasized the importance of having the right people in one’s life. “People are normal when things are fine, but the ones who remain even nicer during your struggles are the ones that matter. I truly appreciate that kind of mentality. Surrounding yourself with such people helps you grow,” he added.

Iyer’s exclusion from the BCCI contracts came just months after a strong performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Instead of letting it affect him, he took it as a learning experience.
“It has been a journey full of lessons. After the World Cup, I reassessed everything—where I went wrong, what I needed to work on, and how crucial fitness was for me. Getting regular matches in domestic cricket helped me realize the importance of my fitness, and I focused on improving myself,” he explained. Despite the setbacks, Iyer remained determined. “I’m extremely happy with how I handled everything. Most importantly, I believed in myself,” he said.
