India’s middle order batter, Shreyas Iyer has also assured supporters that both skipper Rohit Sharma and pacer Mohammed Shami are fine after India’s six-wicket triumph over Pakistan at the Champions Trophy. Worries were raised when Shami took himself off for treatment on his shin early on in the game, and Rohit seemed to be struggling with his hamstring later in Pakistan’s innings.

Outgoing South African paceman Dale Steyn, the commentator, mentioned that Rohit appeared to have been struggling in his left hamstring while in the field. On the other side, Shami, following his treatment, returned for his second spell and seemed to be getting into a better rhythm, even though he didn’t manage his full allocation of 10 overs.

With India already sitting pretty to bag a semifinal spot, such injury issues have arrived at an opportune time. The semifinal is to be played on March 4 at the Dubai International Stadium and important players such as Rohit and Shami must be hundred per cent fit.

In a response to queries at the post-match press conference, Shreyas Iyer rubbished any serious concerns over the duo. “Not really. I just spoke with them for a couple of minutes, and they were both quite happy with the way things went. From my information, I don’t believe there is any problem,” Shreyas Iyer asserted firmly.

Though Rohit has not had injury issues lately, he had been cutting fitness work after being criticized during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. Shami, however, has had a prolonged comeback trail. After having ankle surgery after the ODI World Cup 2023, he spent more than one year rehabilitating at the National Cricket Academy.

Mohammed Shami, in a recent interview, said he practised for eight hours a day to get back into full fitness and had to lose nine kilograms before returning to the field. India being strong in the tournament, the team management will be eager to keep their senior players fit and firing as they chase the Champions Trophy title.
