Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer has opened up about the physical and mental challenges he faced during his recovery from a serious injury, revealing that he lost nearly seven kilograms during the process. The setback occurred during India’s ODI tour of Australia in October, when Iyer sustained a spleen injury that kept him out of action for nearly three months.

Reflecting on that difficult phase ahead of IPL 2026, Iyer admitted that the road to recovery wasn’t easy. “It is always challenging to come back after an injury. I had lost around 7 kgs due to the injury, which was a severe one. Thankfully, I was back in good shape after two months,” he said during a media interaction.

However, regaining that lost weight proved to be an even tougher task. Shreyas  Iyer highlighted the effort it took to rebuild his strength and fitness. “Gaining those 7 kgs back took a lot of effort. I enjoy challenges and that was one I had to overcome. I am glad I came through that phase and am back representing my team,” he added.

The injury, sustained during the third ODI in Sydney, was later diagnosed as internal bleeding in the spleen, making it a significant concern. His return in early January gave him valuable time to regain rhythm and prepare for the upcoming IPL season.

Now leading Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer appears refreshed and motivated. “Expectations are high, which is fun. I love the challenge. But whenever we step in, we have to win. My eye is on the trophy,” he stated confidently.
