The Indian middle-order batsman, Shreyas Iyer has revealed that he has made adjustments in his game that suit the needs of the team and the pressures at international cricket. He also stressed that it has also made him learn how to take responsibility at crunch moments.
Talking to the reporters ahead of the series decider of the ODI series against the West Indies in Cuttack, Shreyas Iyer added he is willing to be flexible and bat at any position for Team India in limited-overs cricket. He has been the solution for the Indian team to their long-standing middle-order woes, especially in ODI cricket. He has grabbed the opportunities that have come his way following World Cup 2019 with both hands.

Talking about the same, Iyer said, “I think that comes with maturity and responsibility. I was a flamboyant player when I started playing first-class cricket. I never used to take responsibility. I just used to back my instincts and go with the flow. Lately, I’ve realized that once you play at the highest level, you gotta take that maturity to another stage.”
While Iyer batted at No. 3 in his maiden year in ODI cricket in 2017, he has been batted at No. 4 and No. 5 in the recent past. In his nascent ODI career, Iyer averages 54 at No. 3, 61.50 at No. 4 and 46 at No. 5. Having scored 4 fifties in consecutive ODIs, Shreyas is making the middle-order spot his own. On Wednesday, Iyer slammed a 32-ball 53 in India’s 107-run win over West Indies in the must-win 2nd ODI.
Describing it further, Shreyas said, “You have to play according to the team demands. I am happy with the way I played in the 2nd ODI. Previous ODIs, I played I was batting at No. 5. It’s not that I have been stable at No. 4 but in the last 2 games, I have been batting at No. 4. I am flexible that way in batting at any number. I know that I can play in both flows. I can even play strokes and I can even nudge the ball and take single, so I know my game really well right now and I can play accordingly.”

Meanwhile, Shreyas also showered some praise for Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting, saying the Australia great treats everyone in the team with equal respect. Iyer was confirmed as the captain of DC for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League during Thursday’s auction.
Iyer said, “Ricky Ponting is a very positive guy. He backs every player and that’s the best quality about him. He also treats everybody equally. He has got an amazing nature as a coach and his man-management skills are outstanding.”
