His composed yet aggressive innings helped India recover from another top-order collapse and post a competitive total of 158/7 after opting to bat first.

Winning the toss, India chose to set a target, but their innings got off to another disappointing start. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan all departed inside the first seven overs, leaving the visitors struggling at 48/3. With the series on the line, Iyer took charge of the innings, absorbing the early pressure before shifting gears at the right time.
The Indian skipper began confidently with a boundary and gradually rebuilt the innings through smart strike rotation and timely attacking shots. His landmark moment came on the fifth ball of the 15th over when he went deep inside his crease to punish Adil Rashid’s short delivery, pulling it over deep square leg for a six to bring up a hard-fought half-century. The celebration reflected his focus, as Iyer simply raised his bat to acknowledge the dressing room and the Bristol crowd.
