Shreyas Iyer Undergoes A Successful Surgery Of His Shoulder

The Indian cricketer, batsman Shreyas Iyer confirmed that he has undergone a successful surgery for his shoulder injury and he also confirmed that he will be “back in no time.” Iyer suffered the injury during the 1st ODI of the three-match series against England. He will be missing the entire season of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as he was expected to lead the Delhi Capitals (DC).

Tweeting about his surgery, Shreyas Iyer wrote: “Surgery was a success and with lion-hearted determination, I’ll be back in no time Lion face Thank you for your wishes.”

The 26-year old Iyer had suffered the injury on March 23 when he dived on a drive hit by Jonny Bairstow off pacer Shardul Thakur. Iyer was subsequently ruled out of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL), and also remains doubtful for his stint with County side Lancashire following the T20 tournament.

Following his injury, the BCCI had stated, “Shreyas Iyer subluxated (partially dislocated) his left shoulder in the 8th over while fielding. He has been taken for further scans.”

In the previous edition of the IPL, Shreyas Iyer led the franchise to the final of the tournament, where they lost to Mumabi Indians (MI). As his replacement, the franchise has named Rishabh Pant to lead the squad in the 14th edition of the tournament. Meanwhile, Shreyas reckons that Pant is the ‘best man for the job’. Shreyas will be missing the entire season of the IPL 2021 but promised to follow the Capitals’ matches throughout.

In the press release by DC, Shreyas Iyer said, “When I sustained the shoulder injury and Delhi Capitals needed a leader for this edition of the IPL, I had no doubt Rishabh would be the best man for the job. He has all my good wishes to make amazing things happen with our absolutely incredible team. I’m going to miss the team tremendously and will be cheering for them throughout.”
