Shreyas Iyer was fired up and full of emotion after taking a sharp catch to dismiss Phil Salt during the IPL 2025 Final between Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Known for his calm demeanour, Iyer let out a rare celebratory roar, reflecting the high stakes of the night and the significance of the early breakthrough.

Earlier in the evening, things had already started well for Iyer, as he won the toss and elected to bowl first—an advantage in high-pressure games where chasing often becomes easier under lights. Arshdeep Singh began proceedings for Punjab, but RCB’s Phil Salt looked determined to go after the bowling straightaway. He smashed a six and a four off Arshdeep’s first over, setting the tone for an aggressive start.

Salt continued the onslaught in the next over, hitting Kyle Jamieson for a boundary. But his fiery innings was cut short immediately after. Looking to play another big shot, Salt mistimed Jamieson’s length delivery and skied the ball towards mid-on. Under pressure and with the final crowd roaring around him, Shreyas Iyer held his ground and completed a superb catch to send the Englishman packing.

It was a huge moment in the game. Phil Salt, who has been instrumental at the top for RCB this season, departed for a brisk 16 off just 9 balls. Iyer’s reaction spoke volumes—not just about the importance of the wicket but about his leadership intensity in a big final.

At the time of writing, RCB were 69 for 2 in the 8th over, with senior pros Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar at the crease. The onus now rests on them to build a solid platform, while Punjab will be hunting for more wickets in the powerplay to keep the pressure on.
