Team India received a major boost ahead of the third ODI against South Africa, with positive news surrounding captain Shubman Gill’s fitness. As per a Sports Tak report, Gill has fully recovered and is set to return for the upcoming five-match T20I series against the Proteas. Gill had suffered severe neck pain while attempting a sweep shot during the Kolkata Test, forcing him to walk off the field.

The injury ruled him out of the remainder of the Test as well as the entire three-match ODI series. Since then, he has been under the close watch of the BCCI medical staff at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Earlier this year, Gill returned to the T20 setup under Suryakumar Yadav’s captaincy and is viewed as a strong contender to open for India in the 2026 T20 World Cup. His comeback pushes Sanju Samson into the middle order, making the upcoming series crucial for both players. Gill will now aim to make a strong statement when the T20I opener takes place on December 9 in Cuttack.
