In a significant shakeup of the ICC Men’s ODI batter rankings, India’s Shubman Gill has dethroned Pakistan’s Babar Azam to seize the coveted number one position. Gill’s meteoric rise to the top has been fueled by his exceptional performances in the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023. With a tally of 219 runs in six innings, Gill has been a consistent force for Team India, amassing half-centuries in four of his matches.
Shubman Gill’s impressive run has propelled him to the top of the rankings, becoming only the fourth Indian player after Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli to achieve this feat.
Babar Azam’s reign as the number one ODI batter has ended after over two years, with a drop of six ranking points relegating him to second place. Gill currently sits atop the rankings with 830 rating points, while Babar Azam follows closely with 824 points.
