In the IPL 2024 showdown between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk, the defending champions emerged victorious, securing their second consecutive win of the season. Despite Shubman Gill’s new role as captain for GT, the team couldn’t halt CSK’s winning momentum. Gill, at 24, assumed captaincy from Hardik Pandya, who led GT to their maiden IPL title in 2022 and finished as runners-up in 2023 before joining Mumbai Indians this season.
However, GT faced disciplinary action as Shubman Gill, their skipper, was fined for the team’s slow over-rate during the March 26 match, amounting to a penalty of INR 12 lakhs. This marked GT’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate violations.

As for the match itself, CSK, batting first, started aggressively with impactful innings from Rachin Ravindra (46 off 20) and captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (46 off 36). Shivam Dube’s explosive cameo (51 off 23) further boosted CSK’s total to 206/6. Despite Rashid Khan claiming two wickets, GT struggled to contain the run flow.

With this win, CSK maintains their position at the top of the table, while GT, after their initial triumph against MI, find themselves in the sixth position.
