Last week, it was somewhere in the middle of the night that the young Indian cricketer, Shubman Gill, received ODI call up for the upcoming 5-match series against New Zealand—a moment which he may never forget in his entire life. He has been going through a purple patch in his career as he has had a phenomenal domestic season recently where he played some match-winning knocks (including a double century) and now is ready to showcase his talent on an elite level.
Gill joined the Indian team following an unfortunate and dramatic suspension of KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya. A day ahead of the first ODI against the Kiwis at McLean Park, Napier, the 19-year-old was spotted sweating out hard at the nets.

This won’t be the first time Gill will be seen in Indian colors if he managed to make his international debut in New Zealand. Just a month ago, he was part of the India A side that toured New Zealand. He did not set the stage on fire but his tally of 124 runs in 3 innings wasn’t the worst in a tournament where most of the other Indian reserves struggled to conjure big scores.
