Adrian Le Roux has begun his second stint with the Indian men’s cricket team as their strength and conditioning coach, and he has already made a mark by reintroducing the Bronco Test. The test, designed to measure aerobic endurance, stamina, and speed, is now being used to evaluate India’s top players.

In the UAE, where India is currently based for the Asia Cup 2025, stars like Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson, Arshdeep Singh, and Jitesh Sharma took part in the shuttle run. Speaking in a video released by the BCCI, Le Roux explained the purpose of the drill.
“The run we did today is the Bronco run. It’s not new; it has been used across multiple sports for years. We’ve now introduced it to help us both in training and as a measurement tool. It gives us a clear picture of players’ aerobic fitness and whether we’re heading in the right direction,” he said.

One of the key benefits, according to Adrian Le Roux, is its flexibility. “It’s a field test, meaning we can do it at any ground around the world. As we travel, the players can assess themselves too. It’s very functional and easy to adapt anywhere,” he added.

Reflecting on his philosophy, Le Roux stressed balance between fitness and skill. “Cricket is a game of skill, and our role is to complement it. By preparing players physically, we help them prolong their careers and reduce injury risks,” he said.
India’s focus on structured fitness under Le Roux signals a renewed push to combine endurance with skill, ensuring the squad remains sharp throughout the demanding season.
