Shubman Gill, the rising star of Indian cricket, has addressed the comparisons made between him and the legendary Sachin Tendulkar and current Indian batting sensation Virat Kohli. Gill, who has enjoyed a stellar year in international cricket, scoring centuries across all formats, including an impressive double hundred in an ODI against New Zealand, has been in top form during IPL 2023.
As the standout batsman for Gujarat Titans (GT), Gill played a pivotal role in guiding his team to the IPL final for the second consecutive year. In his 16 matches, the 23-year-old amassed an impressive 851 runs at an average of 60.79. Remarkably, all three of his centuries this season were scored in the last four matches, cementing his reputation as a rising talent.

However, Gill humbly dismissed the comparisons with Tendulkar and Kohli during an interaction with ANI. He acknowledged the immense influence and inspiration provided by these cricketing icons, stating that their legacies are timeless and cannot be defined by mere comparisons.
Shubman Gill expressed, “See it’s great when people see it but I don’t really see that way because the generation that all of these people Sachin sir, Virat bhai and Rohit Sharma have inspired is beyond. Had we not won the 1983 World Cup, had there not been a Sachin Tendulkar….had we not won the 2011 world cup would I be as much inspired, maybe or maybe not. So, these kinds of legacies, things kind of things are immortal. you can’t really define their legacies.”
Prior to the IPL 2023 Final, Sachin Tendulkar himself praised Gill’s batting prowess, particularly commending his temperament, calmness under pressure, hunger for runs, and intelligent running between the wickets. Tendulkar’s words further validated Gill’s growing reputation as a promising talent in Indian cricket.
