Star India batter Shubman Gill has shared the pressure of taking star batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma’s place. Notably, the star duo recently announced their retirement from the shortest format following India’s T20 World Cup 2024 win. Rohit and Kohli finished as the top two leading run scorers of the format as well. However, Team India will play under the new captain Shubman Gill for the Zimbabwe tour and there will be extra added pressure on him as well.

“Pressure and expectations are always there. But I think what Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have achieved, if I go after achieving or reaching it then it will be difficult. Every player has his individual goals where he wants to reach so that pressure itself is there. And if your’re looking to reach where someone has already achieved then you’re under even more pressure,” said Gill in the pre-match press conference.

“Obviously, pressure is there, but what they’ve achieved what they’ve done for India, there’s no pressure on that front as they’re both my idols and legend of Indian cricket. But what we want to collectively achieve as a team, the pressure is always there for that,” he further added.

Meanwhile, India will play against Zimbabwe in the first T20I of the five-match series on Saturday, July 6 at Harare Sports Club, Harare as well. Many Indian players earned their maiden call-ups whereas many will be seen making their debuts in the series namely Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, Tushar Deshpande and Harshit Rana as well.
