After India’s impressive 99-run victory over Australia in the second ODI, Shreyas Iyer expressed his admiration for Shubman Gill’s remarkable performances in the 50-over format. Gill, the opener, once again showcased his class by notching up a brilliant century against the Australian side in the second ODI held in Indore, contributing significantly to India’s imposing total of 399 runs.
In a video released by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Gill reciprocated the praise, acknowledging the pivotal role played by Iyer in changing the game’s momentum after he took to the crease.
“The way he came in and took on the charge changed the momentum for us,” Shubman Gill said in his post-match comments.

In response, Shreyas Iyer lauded Gill’s splendid performance, describing it as mesmerizing from his perspective. Gill amassed a total of 104 runs from 97 deliveries, further solidifying his remarkable tally of 1230 runs in the current calendar year. Iyer expressed his hope that Gill would continue to maintain this incredible form and contribute to India’s victories in the future.
“He has been sensational throughout. The way he’s been converting starts into big scores is simply outstanding. Just to watch him play those strokes was mesmerizing from the opposite end. From the bottom of my heart, I hope he keeps continuing this journey and keeps winning matches for India,” Shreyas Iyer warmly acknowledged.

In the match, Shreyas Iyer was recognized as the Player of the Match for his incredible century. As for Australia, they faced early setbacks with the dismissals of Matthew Short and Steven Smith. David Warner attempted to bring momentum back into their innings with a half-century, but he too fell victim to Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling prowess. Ashwin, along with Ravindra Jadeja, both claimed three wickets each.
