The Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 has been nothing short of riveting so far. India opened the series with a commanding 295-run victory in Perth, only for Australia to bounce back strongly with a resounding win in the day-night Test, leveling the series. With the score tied at 1-1, all eyes are now on the crucial third Test, set to begin on December 14, 2024, at The Gabba in Brisbane.
Shubman Gill, one of India’s top-order stars, spoke candidly about the challenges the team faced during the pink-ball Test in Adelaide. “The pink ball is different—it’s harder, and we’re more accustomed to the red ball,” Gill explained during a pre-match press conference, as quoted by The Indian Express. “Playing under lights makes it difficult to gauge the seam and hand positions.”
Shubman Gill also highlighted the mental toughness required to succeed in Australian conditions, particularly at The Gabba, known for its challenging pitches.

“The intensity of games here is what makes it unique. It demands a lot of mental resilience and fitness. Conditions are tough, but once you get past 35 overs and the second new ball comes into play, batting becomes a bit easier,” he shared. Despite the challenges, Shubman Gill exuded confidence, reflecting the team’s upbeat mood ahead of the Brisbane clash.

“Fear doesn’t factor in when you’ve won before. We won last time here and back home too. This generation focuses on the ball, not who’s bowling,” he remarked.

When asked about captain Rohit Sharma’s absence from an optional training session, Gill clarified, “It was an optional session, and he has already trained extensively.” This comes amidst criticism from former legend Sunil Gavaskar, who recently pointed out the importance of practice for players struggling with form, especially with ample breaks between games.
India looks determined to continue its momentum in what promises to be a thrilling encounter at The Gabba.
