Shubman Gill Reveals He has Discussions With Yuvraj Singh Ahead Of Zimbabwe Tour

The young Indian batter, Shubman Gill said that he had a discussion with former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh before the tour of Zimbabwe. The 22-year-old batter, on Monday, August 22, scored his maiden ODI hundred against Regis Chakabva’s Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club. Not only did he win the Player of the Match award after India registered a close 13-run win, but he also bagged the Player of the Series award.

Shubman Gill finished as the highest run-getter of the series with a tally of 245 runs from three matches at an average of 122.50 and a strike rate of 120.69. After the end of the series, Gill was interviewed by his teammate, Ishan Kishan, the video of which was uploaded on the official website of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). In the video, Gill shared how Yuvraj motivated him to perform well.

Shubman Gill explained, “It was a good wicket to bat on and I got your company fortunately and luck was in my favor and I had to make the most of the opportunity that I had. I met him before coming to Zimbabwe and he just told me that I am batting well and asked me to bat deep after getting set. He also motivated me to score a century, although I wasn’t getting one.”

Before the Zimbabwe tour, Shubman Gill also won the Player of the Series award on the tour of the West Indies. In one of the matches on the Caribbean tour, Gill was stranded on 98 when rain interrupted.

After he scored his first century, Yuvraj congratulated Shubman Gill as he tweeted: “Finally!!! Well played @ShubmanGill u seriously deserved that, Ton ! Congratulations on your first many more to come. This is just a start.” Gill also played a major part for the Gujarat Lions, who won the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year.
