At the halfway mark of IPL 2025, the Shubman Gill-led Gujarat Titans are making a strong statement. With six wins from eight matches, the 2022 champions sit comfortably at the top of the points table with 12 points and a healthy net run rate of 1.104. Their latest triumph came against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, where they sealed a dominant 39-run win, showcasing both batting firepower and bowling precision.

After posting a commanding 198/3, GT’s bowlers kept KKR on a tight leash, restricting them to 159/8 in their 20 overs. The contest briefly looked competitive when KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane and allrounder Venkatesh Iyer began to rebuild with a 41-run third-wicket stand.

But the momentum shifted when R Sai Kishore struck at a crucial moment, dismissing Iyer for 14 with a well-planned delivery that tempted a mistimed slog-sweep into the hands of the deep fielder. What followed next was a rare glimpse into the fiery side of the usually composed Shubman Gill.

As Venkatesh Iyer trudged off, Shubman Gill celebrated passionately, thumping Sai Kishore’s chest in elation. Later, the 25-year-old GT captain explained the outburst: “We were ahead in the game, but it’s one thing to be ahead and another to finish well. Good teams close games properly, and that moment reflected my emotions.”

Gill had every reason to be pumped. He was the star with the bat, crafting a fluent 90 off 55 deliveries, laced with 10 fours and three sixes. His opening stand with Sai Sudharsan (52 off 36) laid the platform with a 114-run partnership.
