Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Subman Gill was the most consistent player for the franchise in the last season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) and he provided another good start to his team along with Nitish Rana. Although he managed to score just 15 runs in the opening game of the 2021 edition against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Chennai.
Shubman Gill provided excellent support to Rana who was seen going all guns blazing at the other end and taking on the SRH bowlers at will, irrespective of who the bowler was. The very first ball of the innings bowled by Bhuvneshwar Kumar was hit for a four by Nitish Rana which demonstrated the mindset of both the openers. Incredibly, there had just been one 50+ partnership for KKR last season in the 14 matches that they played.

However, in the first match here, they came up with a 53-run partnership which eventually came to the end after Rashid Khan produced a beauty to remove Gill. In the fifth over of the innings bowled by SRH’s yorker specialist T Natarajan, Gill did not give him time to settle by going after the pacer off the very first ball. He picked the ball on a length and punched it back over the bowler’s head for a big six towards long-on.
Here is the video of the six:

It was well and truly a classy six that received the approval of the commentators as well. The ball then had to be sanitized due to the COVID-19 protocols for sixes hit into the stands.

The six was the highlight of Gill’s stay at the crease as he was looking to settle for a huge knock, but ultimately, ended when a slower googly from Rashid Khan caught the opener off-guard, despite the fact that he had read the wrong-un.
