Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan have ascended to their career-best ODI rankings following their standout performances in the Asia Cup 2023 matches against Nepal and Pakistan, respectively. Gill showcased his batting prowess with an unbeaten 67 against Nepal in India’s second Group A match, while Kishan’s blistering 82 against Pakistan was a standout despite the rain-induced washout of the highly-anticipated clash.

Their stellar displays have propelled these young Indian talents to notable positions in the latest ICC ODI rankings for batsmen. Although Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, continues to hold the top spot with a commanding 882 rating points, Gill has surged to third place, attaining a career-high rating of 750 points.

With India and Pakistan both advancing to the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup 2023 and the impending ODI World Cup next month, Gill stands a good chance of further advancing in the rankings. While the gap between Babar and the chasing pack remains substantial, Gill’s remarkable rise is worth noting.

Ishan Kishan has also reached a career-high ranking, securing the 24th position after leaping an impressive 12 spots. His remarkable innings of 82 in Pallekele, which aided India in recovering from a shaky start, has earned him 624 rating points. However, Kishan’s future appearances in India’s playing XI may be influenced by KL Rahul’s return to the Indian team.

In the latest ODI rankings, South Africa’s Rassie van der Dussen holds the second position, while India’s stalwart Virat Kohli is ranked 10th, and captain Rohit Sharma follows closely in 11th place.

Pakistan’s star pacer, Shaheen Afridi, made a significant leap, advancing four places to the fifth spot in the ODI bowlers’ rankings. He achieved this after claiming six wickets in Pakistan’s two matches during the group stage of the Asia Cup. Haris Rauf also made an impressive move, climbing 14 places to secure the 29th position in the latest rankings, while Naseem Shah jumped 13 spots to reach the 68th position.
