Shubman Gill’s brilliant IPL 2026 season has not only been about runs and captaincy success for the Gujarat Titans but also about his entertaining social media presence. The GT skipper has frequently grabbed attention online with playful digs at rival teams like Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings after victories earlier this season. However, after Gujarat’s defeat to Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Gill turned the humour towards his own side.

Gujarat Titans suffered a costly 29-run defeat against KKR after a poor fielding display allowed the hosts to post a massive 247/2. GT dropped four catches during the innings, giving Finn Allen, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, and Cameron Green multiple opportunities to punish them.
Allen made Gujarat pay the heaviest price with a stunning 93 off just 35 balls, while Raghuvanshi and Green added crucial runs in the middle and death overs. Despite the difficult chase, Gill once again led from the front with a classy 85 off 49 deliveries to keep Gujarat in contention. However, his effort was not enough as GT eventually fell short.

After the match, Gill shared a cheeky Instagram story aimed at his team’s disappointing catching performance. “We’ll catch the next one,” the Gujarat captain posted, quickly drawing reactions from fans across social media. Gill was equally honest while analysing the defeat during the post-match presentation. The GT skipper admitted his side did not deserve to win after dropping several straightforward chances in the field.

“We set a certain standard, and after dropping three sitters, we didn’t deserve to win,” Shubman Gill said. “It’s probably better to have a game like this before the playoffs rather than during the qualifiers.”

The Gujarat captain also felt the batting effort was strong enough on a surface where 200-210 looked like a competitive total. Despite the setback, the Gujarat Titans remain firmly in control of their playoff hopes and now need just one more win to officially secure qualification ahead of their final league clash against the Chennai Super Kings on May 21.
