A rare and dramatic moment unfolded before the start of IPL 2026 Qualifier 2 between the Gujarat Titans and the Rajasthan Royals as the toss had to be conducted twice following confusion over Riyan Parag’s call. The unusual incident quickly became a major talking point ahead of the high-pressure clash at the PCA Stadium in Mullanpur.

During the first toss attempt, Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill flipped the coin while Rajasthan Royals skipper Riyan Parag made the call. The coin landed on tails, which would have given the Gujarat Titans the toss advantage. However, host Ravi Shastri immediately pointed out that Parag’s call was not clearly audible.
Match referee Prakash Bhatt then intervened and confirmed that he also did not hear the Rajasthan Royals captain’s call clearly. As a result, officials decided to conduct the toss again, leading to visible surprise among players and fans watching the incident unfold live.

Shubman Gill appeared frustrated by the development, especially since the Gujarat Titans would have won the toss in the original attempt. However, the GT skipper accepted the referee’s decision and maintained that his side would have chosen to bat first anyway.
“We would have batted first as well. There have already been 40 overs played on this pitch, and we didn’t think it would change much. Unfortunately, I don’t think the referee heard Riyan’s call,” Shubman Gill said at the toss.
