Team India is gearing up for a two-match Test series against Bangladesh, set to kick off on September 19 at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. As preparations intensify, star batter Shubman Gill recently emphasized the importance of not underestimating their opponents. At 25, Gill has already seen enough of international cricket to understand the risks of complacency, especially against a team that has been on the rise.

Gill pointed out that Bangladesh’s recent performances, particularly their historic series win over Pakistan, are a clear warning sign. Under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto, Bangladesh pulled off a stunning victory, defeating Pakistan in their own backyard.

They won the first Test by 10 wickets and followed it up with a six-wicket triumph in the second. These results have demonstrated Bangladesh’s ability to compete and succeed at the highest level, especially in challenging conditions.

“I don’t think you can underestimate any international side; the kind of cricket Bangladesh has played in the last couple of months, especially in Pakistan, has been impressive,” Shubman Gill said in a recent interview with JioCinema.

He further highlighted the strong performances of Bangladesh’s fast bowlers and the resilience of their middle-order batters, stressing that India will need to be at their best to secure victory. “It will be an interesting and intriguing contest,” he added.

This series is critical for India, not just in terms of maintaining their dominance in the World Test Championship (WTC) standings but also as a warm-up for the upcoming home series against New Zealand. India currently sits atop the WTC standings with 74 points, having won six out of nine matches.

Their qualification for the WTC final seems almost certain. Bangladesh, on the other hand, is in fourth place with 33 points from six matches, having won three and lost three. They will be eager to cause another upset, this time against India, to further solidify their position in the standings.
