Zimbabwe head coach Justin Sammons has applauded Shubman Gill before the 5-match T20I series. India are all set to be led by the young Gill in the absence of top Indian players who just returned home from their T20 World Cup campaign. This is going to be an important series for Shubman Gill who is being looked at as the next long-time leader of the Indian team as well. Ahead of the first match on Saturday, 6 July, Zimbabwe coach Sammons lauded the batter and said that Gill’s records spoke for himself.

“Shubman is a superb cricketer, I remember first seeing Shubman, I think I was with the Proteas. We were playing that Test series against India. I think it was December 2021. He didn’t get any game time there, but you could see his work ethic and how professional he was in the way he went about his business in the nets during that Test series was something exciting to watch. And like I say, his record speaks for itself,” the Zimbabwe coach said.

However, the head coach was also wary of the threat that other Indian batters, including Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh, are also a part of the squad. Dube played in the T20 World Cup and scored well against South Africa in the final of the tournament.

“They’re exciting, they’re dangerous. They have proven records against their names. It’s an amazing opportunity for us. I think as a youngster growing up you always dream of playing against the best in the world. We can see how dangerous Riyan Parag is. He had a great IPL, showed his worth there. Again, another exciting prospect for India. Again, it’s another opportunity for our guys to test themselves against the best,” Justin Sammons concluded.
