In an amusing turn of events at the toss for the final T20I against the India National Cricket Team, Zimbabwe National Cricket Team captain Sikandar Raza grabbed attention even before the match commenced. The fifth and concluding T20I match took place at the Harare Sports Club in Harare on Sunday, July 14th. Sikandar Raza, who had lost the toss in the previous four games, decided to add a bit of flair this time. As he spun the coin, he performed an odd little jump, perhaps in a bid to change his luck.

Surprisingly, the quirky move paid off, and Raza won the toss, breaking his losing streak. However, his excitement got the better of him when he approached to discuss his decision – in his eagerness, he forgot to grab the microphone. It was then that Shubman Gill stepped in to help, handing the mic to Raza.

Speaking after the toss, Sikandar Raza chose to field first, explaining that he believed the pitch would improve as the game progressed. He expressed confidence in his team’s abilities and their desire to end the series on a high note.

“We are going to have a bowl first. The wicket will get better as the game progresses, and we want to capitalize on that when we bat second. The team is motivated and confident, and we aim to finish the series strongly. Brandon Mavuta is coming in for Chatara, who has been rested after playing four consecutive games, especially with a Test match on the horizon,” Sikandar Raza elaborated.

On the other hand, Shubman Gill, standing in for India, also shared his thoughts, mentioning that his side had been looking to bat first anyway. He commended his spinners and fast bowlers for their performances and highlighted the players’ hunger for success despite the challenging schedule.

“We were looking to bat first anyway. Our spinners have bowled exceptionally well, and the fast bowlers have been economical. The players are eager and motivated, even though it’s tough to play back-to-back matches. We have made a couple of changes with Mukesh Kumar and Parag coming in,” Shikandar Gill noted.

Reflecting on the series so far, the India National Cricket Team had already secured a series win with three consecutive victories. Zimbabwe had started the series on a positive note, winning the first game by 13 runs, but India bounced back impressively, dominating the next three matches. With the series already decided, both teams were looking to end on a high – India aiming for a fourth straight win and Zimbabwe hoping to notch their second victory in the series under Raza’s leadership.
