David Warner and Steve Smith who was banned from International Cricket for the ball tampering controversy, has returned to the squad and they both have been included in Australia’s World Cup squad as well. However, Australia have a pool of outstanding players who have been performing pretty well for the last one year and it would be difficult to include them in the playing XI. On the other hand, it is known that both of them are the key players for Australia. However, former batsman Simon Katich felt that it would be a “happy headache”

“They are both quality players and their records speak for themselves. The hard part is the Australian team has a problem of plenty particularly in the top four. Both of them are top four players. There is (Usman) Khawaja, (Aaron) Finch, Shaun Marsh, and the two and these guys will try to fit into four slots. Then there is Maxwell, Stoinis. It’s going to be a tough selection call,” Katich said to IANS.

For the defending champions Australia, the primary problem would be on how to chose the openers among Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja and David Warner. Moreover, Warner has been in a formidable form who was the highest run-getter in the recently concluded Indian Premier League (IPL).

“They will welcome back the experience of Smith and Warner,” said Katich when asked about the off-field experience with the Warner-Smith. “The balance with the batting line-up is what they need to get right,” the 43-year old added.

Katich has also shared his thought about Dinesh Karthik as well.

“There is a lot of talk around that No.4 spot, and he is a guy who likes to spend time in the middle. Once he is set, he is very hard to bowl to at the back end. He has got all the tricks and he does have the timing and power to clear the rope,” said Katich.

“It’s hard to judge a player based on T20 cricket with ODI cricket,” he further added.

Australia will face Afghanistan in their first game of World Cup on June 1 while the mega event will take place from May 30 in England.
