India has been in great batting form lately, scoring over 200 runs in the last two T20Is against Australia. The second-string batting unit has been able to take on the Australian bowlers, and one particular player to note is UP-based cricketer Rinku Singh. Rinku Singh has risen through the ranks for his franchise, KKR, to establish himself as one of the better finishers among Indian batters.
Rinku Sigh’s performances have caught the attention of the Indian side, and he has been exemplary with the bat in his two T20I appearances, scoring 22(14) and 31(9)* so far. Even the Indian captain, Suryakumar Yadav, has hinted that Rinku’s performances remind him of MS Dhoni, a player that Indian cricketing fans adore.
Former Australian cricketer Simon Katich, speaking in JioCinema’s preview show for the third T20I, believes that Rinku Singh can take on the high-pressure role as the finisher for the Indian side. He said, “He is doing everything right, and it is such a specialist role. It’s not just an easy role that someone can fill in for when they have been playing at No.4 or 5.”

Simon Katich emphasized that the finisher needs to get going from ball one and score quick runs for his side in the latter stages of the innings. He added, “He has been doing that consistently, which is not an easy thing to do in that role.”
Simon Katich also praised Rinku’s hitting ability, saying, “The way he is doing it is the most impressive part because he is reacting to the ball and not pre-meditating.”
India is currently using the upcoming T20I matches and the IPL 2024 to finalize the squad for the T20 World Cup 2024, which is jointly hosted by West Indies and the United States of America.

If Rinku can maintain his current form through the IPL, he is very much in contention for a spot in the Indian team for the World Cup. India will be looking to get their hands on the T20 World Cup trophy, which has eluded them since the inaugural edition in 2007 when the MS Dhoni-led side won the tournament.
