Sir Richard Hadlee will undergo second surgery after cancer spread in liver

New Zealand cricket legend Sir Richard Hadlee will undergo another surgery after cancer has spread in his liver. It will be his second surgery in the fight against bowel cancer.

Earlier, the 67-year-old had a successful surgery for bowel cancer that removed a tumour and had an excellent recovery journey. But in the latest medical test has revealed that cancer spread in his liver and need another surgery that is expected to be conducted in later this week.

His wife Lady Dianne Hadlee has confirmed the news and said that it is still at a very early stage. She also added that Hadlee will undergo further chemotherapy treatment once he recovers from the second operation.

Miss Hadlee said in a statement, “Medical advice is that it’s still at a very early stage and is operable. Once he has recovered from the operation, Richard will undergo further chemotherapy treatment.”

Like the earlier statement, this time once again Miss Hadlee has requested to people to respect their privacy.

She added in her statement, “As with the first statement released on this matter, we disclose these details solely in the interests of transparency, and to avoid speculation and gossip. We would again ask that people respect our request for privacy.”

Hadlee has been considered as one of the greatest cricketers in the world. Having an international career from 1973 to 1990, he was one of the great fast bowlers as well as all-rounders. Hadlee played 86 Tests and 115 ODIs where he took a total of 589 wickets (431 wickets in Tests and 158 wickets in ODIs) and also scored a total of 4,875 runs (3,124 runs in Tests and 1,751 runs in ODIs).

The right-arm pacer was the first bowler to claim 400 Test wickets. Moreover, he was also the first player to complete 1,000 runs as well as 100 wickets in ODI career.
