India secured a dominant eight-wicket victory over the West Indies in the second ODI at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati on September 30, 2026. The result gave India an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The West Indies posted a huge 405/7 in their allotted 50 overs, with centuries from Amir Jangoo, Shai Hope and John Campbell. However, India’s response was even more emphatic.

Shubman GIll and Rohit Sharma broke records in Guwahati

Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on a sensational 223, while Rohit Sharma smashed 101 off 75 deliveries as India chased down the target in only 43.3 overs. The match produced a staggering aggregate of 811 runs, making it the third-highest aggregate in ODI history. With the pitch offering very little assistance to the bowlers, India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak admitted that the conditions were difficult for the bowling sides.

“There was not a lot for the bowlers. We wish that it is equally balanced. Like I said, maybe 300 runs wicket and other team have to fight hard to get that 300, 320 (is ideal),” Sitanshu Kotak said during the post-match press conference.

Kotak also pointed towards the fast outfield, which made it difficult for bowlers to contain the scoring once batters found their timing. “The outfield is quick. 20, 30, 40 runs go there. Particularly in today’s game, yes, you do feel for the bowlers,” he added.

The conditions allowed the West Indies batters to score freely before Gill and Rohit took full advantage of the same surface during India’s record chase. The lack of assistance for bowlers meant that the contest heavily favoured the batting sides.

India head coach Gautam Gambhir also expressed his concerns about the nature of the pitch, describing the contest as a one-sided affair.
