India batsman, Suresh Raina, who is putting in the hard yards in the domestic circuit was once a reliable middle-order option for the team in the limited-overs format. His ability to up the ante from the word go was what attracted the selectors and what forced the management to give him a long run in the limited-overs side.

During India’s dismal tour of England in 2011, Raina finished the ODI series as the second-highest run-scorer, only behind the then Indian captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni. In five matches, Raina had scored 198 runs at an average of 39.60 and a strike rate of 113.79. He had also hit a highest of nine towering sixes in the series.

In the fourth ODI at Lord’s, which ended in a tie, he was the pick of the Indian batsman as he scored 84 (75) with the help of seven fours and two sixes. He was involved in a 169-run partnership with Dhoni for the fifth wicket in that match.
