Nandre Burger delivered a decisive blow for the Rajasthan Royals by dismissing the dangerous Suryakumar Yadav during the crucial IPL 2026 clash against the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. The left-arm pacer produced a moment of brilliance in the 18th over of Mumbai’s chase, grabbing a sharp return catch to remove Suryakumar for 60 off 42 balls.

The stylish right-hander had almost single-handedly kept Mumbai alive in the chase with a fighting innings that included four sixes and three boundaries. Nandre Burger bowled a clever slower delivery outside off stump, tempting Suryakumar into an aggressive pull shot.

However, the MI batter failed to get proper timing on the ball and ended up hitting it straight back towards the bowler. Burger reacted instantly on his follow-through and safely completed the catch, triggering massive celebrations from the Rajasthan camp.

The wicket proved to be the turning point of the contest as Mumbai slipped to 158/8 while chasing a challenging target of 206. From there, Rajasthan tightened its grip on the match and eventually sealed a comfortable 30-run victory to confirm its place in the IPL 2026 playoffs.

 

Despite the defeat, Suryakumar finally returned to form after a difficult run in the tournament. The knock helped him finish the season with 270 runs from 13 innings, including two half-centuries. Burger, meanwhile, continued his impressive campaign by taking his wicket tally to 11 in as many matches.

Earlier in the evening, Rajasthan Royals recovered brilliantly after early setbacks to post 205/8 in 20 overs. Dhruv Jurel played a composed knock of 38, while Jofra Archer smashed a quickfire 32 off just 15 balls. Valuable contributions also came from Dasun Shanaka, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ravindra Jadeja.

For Mumbai, Hardik Pandya and Will Jacks chipped in with attacking cameos, but the target proved too steep. Rajasthan Royals will now face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL 2026 Eliminator at New Chandigarh on May 27.
